As CEO of edX, the massive open online course provider, Agarwal has reached millions of students worldwide. But he also believes computers can and should learn―maximizing their performance while minimizing their use of resources and energy. Modeled on biological systems that adapt to their changing environments, his vision for self-aware “organic computing,” recently cited by Scientific American as one of 10 world-changing ideas, could significantly improve efficiency and performance.
