A New Home for Mathematics
Home to MIT’s Department of Mathematics, Building 2 is part of the iconic cluster of buildings completed in 1916 for the Institute’s move from Boston to Cambridge. Renamed the Simons Building in honor of James ’58 and Marilyn Simons, the historic building’s original limestone façade has been restored, mechanical systems overhauled, and new community spaces and a fourth floor added. “This masterful transformation demonstrates what can be accomplished within these old walls,” says Michael Sipser, dean of the School of Science.
