Oscar Wao’s Pulitzer
Junot Díaz, Faculty
Combining a nerdy hero, dense allusions to sci-fi, a vivid portrayal of immigrant Dominican life, and a shattering depiction of dictatorship, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao earned Díaz the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for fiction. A fire hose of culture references, the novel, like Díaz himself, is edgy, geeky, and exquisitely MIT. In 2012, Díaz received a genius grant from the MacArthur Foundation.
