Video: Transforming Kendall Square

MIT has broken ground on a new chapter for Kendall Square that will transform it into a true gateway to and from MIT.

The evolution of Kendall Square is the story of a once-thriving industrial strip, turned urban wilderness, turned home to one of the greatest concentrations of innovative companies in the world. Now, this crucible of invention and discovery is on the cusp of a transformation. New construction as part of MIT’s Kendall Square Initiative includes a graduate student residence and childcare center and new homes for the Office of Admissions, MIT Museum, and Innovation Initiative. The plan, many years in the making, also adds lab and housing capacity to the area and incorporates flexible indoor and outdoor gathering spaces.

Think of it as Kendall Square intensified: a place more open, more vibrant, and more connected to the community that surrounds it; an even stronger force for inquiry and inspiration; a new home for extraordinary MIT talent; and an accelerator of economic growth.
