Six Degrees of Separation
Ithiel de Sola Pool, faculty
De Sola Pool made broad contributions to political and social science, and is the deep source of our contemporary concept of “networks” and the now common verb “to network.” His research to understand social contact networks and “small-world phenomenon,” such as the chance that two randomly selected people will know someone in common, inspired the play and movie, Six Degrees of Separation.
