Robert Noyce PhD ’53

Noyce is the co-inventor of the integrated circuit, contributing the key insight of using silicon to make the circuits easier to manufacture. Known as the “Mayor of Silicon Valley,” he cofounded Intel, where he oversaw the invention of the microprocessor. Through his leadership of the semiconductor industry and his role in these two key innovations, Noyce touched the lives of nearly every person on the planet.
