“MIT’s greatest invention may be itself—an unusual concentration of unusual talent, restlessly reinventing itself on a mission to make a better world.”
With these words, MIT President L. Rafael Reif kicked off the MIT Campaign for a Better World in May 2016. MIT recently celebrated the successful conclusion of the Campaign, in which, together, 112,703 alumni and friends raised $6.24B to help the people of MIT tackle humanity’s urgent global challenges, from discovery science and human health to innovation and the health of the planet. Above all, they fueled MIT’s core strength—its people.
The Campaign close was marked by Better World Weekend at MIT, which featured presentations and conversations with the Institute’s brightest lights—the faculty members and researchers who shared their pathbreaking work on the topics of mobility, sustainability, biotech, human health, equity, and design, both present and future. MIT’s Campaign for a Better World spotlighted the bold, pioneering spirit of our community. Overcoming obstacles and seizing opportunities, we have continued to take on new problems and seek fresh solutions to the world’s greatest challenges.
