Video: A New Graduate Residence at MIT

Take a look inside the new graduate student residence in Kendall Square.

MIT’s dynamic and diverse graduate student body is central to the mission of MIT and a powerful force in the Institute’s research engine.

Now, members of this 7,000-strong community are getting a much-needed new home at the heart of campus with the completion of a graduate residence in the revitalized Kendall Square. Students and their families are anticipated to move into the striking new building on Kendall’s Main Street in winter 2021.

The structure features 454 apartments prioritized for families with children and efficiencies for single students. The layout includes a host of common areas such as study spaces, a family lounge, playroom, terraces, and multipurpose rooms.

Adjacent to the MIT Sloan School of Management, the residence connects graduate students to the people and places of the Cambridge innovation and business ecosystems. It anchors a larger, multiuse site that brings together retail, makerspaces, a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship activities, and a new childcare center that serves the entire MIT community.
