There is nothing more central to MIT’s mission than the success of its students. MIT is committed to meeting the financial need of our undergraduates, ensuring that every student who accepts an offer of admission has the resources and support to thrive here.

Philanthropy helps make MIT’s need-blind admissions policy possible. The generosity of our donors at all levels means that the brightest minds from around the world, regardless of financial circumstances, can pursue their ambitions at the Institute, discover their whole selves, and make essential contributions to the energy and vibrancy of the MIT community.

Beginning with the 2025–2026 academic year, students whose family income is under $200,000 a year (with typical assets) attend MIT tuition-free.⁠

There are many ways to support undergraduate students—today and in the future.

Unrestricted giving: flexible funding has long helped MIT stand firm in its commitment to need-blind admissions and full-need aid policies for all undergraduate students. In fiscal year 2023, unrestricted gifts covered 28% of MIT’s undergraduate financial aid.
Endowed scholarships: endowed support is a powerful tool for supporting MIT students in perpetuity. These scholarships require a gift of $100K or more designated to support MIT undergraduates.
Expendable scholarships: these scholarships provide funds that can support students immediately. Gifts of all levels are welcome, with multi-year named expendable scholarships starting at $10,000 annually.
Planned gifts: a scholarship funded through a life-income or bequest gift establishes a lasting legacy for the donor while supporting MIT students who will go on to make their own mark on the world.
